A recent research article published in the Journal of Applied Psychology indicates that expressions of gratitude spread rippling downstream through workplaces. When leaders express specific, genuine appreciation, it trains employees to notice positive events and helpful actions and then express gratitude to others, which cascades throughout the organization. I often help organizations develop a "positive accountability culture," where team members' great work is noticed and valued, which reinforces a culture of accountabilty through positivity. Positive accountability culture is much more effective than "gotcha accountability culture." This recent research is further support for the idea that praise in the workplace really matters! #teamcohesion #leadershipmatters
